Why PedalStart Invested in Moe Puppy

A Category Reaching an Inflection Point

Walk into any urban Indian household today and the role of pets looks very different from what it did a decade ago.

They are no longer just companions. They are treated as family, with growing attention to health, hygiene, and long-term wellness. This behavioural change is beginning to reflect in how the pet care market is evolving.

India’s pet care industry has crossed an estimated $1 billion in size and is expected to grow at over 20 percent annually over the next few years, according to recent 2025 industry reports. Pet parents are moving away from generic, low-cost products towards safer, ingredient-aware, and purpose-built solutions.

At the same time, the supply side is still catching up. A large part of the premium segment continues to depend on imported products, often expensive and not always tailored for Indian conditions.

That is the space Moe Puppy is building in, and where we see strong potential for early stage startup funding to create long-term category leaders.

Early Signals That Built Our Interest

When evaluating early-stage companies, the first layer is always the founder’s relationship with the problem.

In Moe Puppy’s case, that connection was direct. Founded by Gourav Dudeja and Manish Paul, the idea originated from a personal need, shaped by real challenges around finding safe and effective grooming products for pets with sensitive conditions. That lived experience often reflects in how carefully the product is built.

The second layer was product direction.

Moe Puppy is not attempting to solve everything at once. The focus has been clear from the beginning, building science-backed, clean-label grooming and wellness products that address specific needs rather than broad categories. Products such as dry shampoos, keratin-based formulations, and paw care solutions indicate depth in thinking rather than surface-level expansion.

The third signal was traction.

Within two years of operations, Moe Puppy has served over 1 lakh customers and built a repeat rate of around 30 percent. In a category where trust takes time to develop, repeat behaviour becomes an important indicator of product acceptance.

Growth added another layer to the picture. The business has scaled close to 10 times over the past year while also emerging as one of the highest-rated pet grooming brands on Amazon, reflecting both product quality and customer satisfaction.

Equally important was how the company chose to scale.

By staying digital-first and leveraging platforms such as its own website, marketplaces, and quick commerce channels like Blinkit and Zepto, Moe Puppy has been able to reach users across tier one and tier two cities without taking on heavy offline costs. This reflects early awareness of capital efficiency, something we consistently emphasise while working with founders. These signals, taken together, built the initial interest behind our startup funding decision.

Why We Chose to Back Moe Puppy

At PedalStart, investment decisions are not driven by category momentum alone. They are shaped by how clearly a company understands its space and how it chooses to build within it.

Moe Puppy demonstrated a few characteristics that aligned closely with that thinking.

The first was product intent.

There is a visible emphasis on research, formulation, and safety rather than rapid SKU expansion. In categories like pet care, where trust compounds over time, this approach tends to build stronger long-term outcomes.

The second was clarity in positioning.

The brand sits in a segment that balances quality and accessibility. It does not compete purely on price, nor does it position itself as an inaccessible premium offering. This middle ground, when executed well, can scale across a wider consumer base.

The third was discipline in growth.

The company has shown the ability to grow while keeping a close view on customer experience, supply chain, and brand perception. This reduces the risk of expansion outpacing product quality, which is a common challenge in consumer businesses.

Beyond the business itself, the founders demonstrated openness to feedback and a willingness to refine decisions as they scale. That becomes important in early-stage journeys where direction continues to evolve, especially for founders navigating early stage startup funding environments.

Our involvement goes beyond capital.

As early backers, the focus has been on working closely with the team across areas such as go-to-market direction, brand building, and access to the right networks. The intent is to support the company in strengthening its foundations as it moves from early traction to sustained growth.

The recent ₹2 crore startup funding round will allow Moe Puppy to invest further in research and development, strengthen its supply chain, and build capabilities across growth and customer experience. These are the areas that tend to define long-term consumer brands.

From here, the opportunity is clear.

The category is expanding. Consumer expectations are rising. And there is space for brands that can combine quality, trust, and accessibility at scale.

At PedalStart, we look to back companies that have the potential to evolve into category-defining brands not just in India, but globally. Moe Puppy is building with that intent, and we will continue to work closely with them as they move toward becoming one of the most trusted and widely adopted pet care brands to emerge from India.

For us, the decision was not just about where the company is today, but how it is choosing to get to where it wants to be.
